ahh, homework
Well, whether you know or not: I’ve just recently started going to school for production, and hope to get my master’s doing this sort of thing.
Tonight was spent on my first ‘real’ assignment. I call it a ‘real’ assignment because it’s the first thing we’ve had to hand in that actually resembled a song. Of course, there were a lot of constraints, time being one of them, using Reason being another (ha!), but I think I’ll at least get a B on this one.
This week’s lessons were tough but informative; it focused on one of my huge weaknesses. Being a guitar player (most recently) and a piano player (repressed), I am not used to working with the backbone of a song, i.e. the drums and the bass. I usually just add them in later…much later, after laying down and tweaking the main melody multiple times. This is problematic for me sometimes, so I was glad to have an opportunity to be forced to do things in the reverse order.
I wouldn’t do anything so suicidal as to post my assignments here, or anything, but I can link you to my myspace music profile so you can see what I am “currently” working on (or avoiding working on). I have a feeling that the songs which populate that profile will sound very different once this semester is over.
I hope so!
In other news: I set up a jabber server on letsneverdie.net after reading about AIM’s lack of privacy policy. It’s compatible with google talk, and if I wanted to I could gateway it to AIM and MSN. But I don’t wanna.
Okay…how’s that for my first official blog post?
